Suggest A Book!

posted Jan 20, 2014 16:50:01 by CouldNeverDoThat
Got a book that you've been wanting to read? Or maybe a book that you've already read and think everyone else should read too? Let us know!

Part of the fun of a book club is spreading the literary love around and seeing other people enjoying your recommendations too. It's also a great way to bond over shared likes and dislikes and to see how differently people react to the same material. Sometimes the disagreeing is the best part! And whilst we don't mind choosing the books for you, we'd love for you to recommend some books too and to surprise us with something that we might never have thought to read.

So if you've got something you think we'd all love, let us know and tell us why you think it would be a great selection for our book club. And if someone suggests something you've been dying to read too, then definitely back up their suggestion so that we know it's a popular choice!

I've been wanting to read "Room" by Emma Donoghue or quite some time, but have yet to sit down and do it. Several of muffins fiends/family members say it's really great! For anyone who's not familiar with it, the dust jacket description reads:

To five-year-old-Jack, Room is the world. . . . It's where he was born, it's where he and his Ma eat and sleep and play and learn. At night, his Ma shuts him safely in the wardrobe, where he is meant to be asleep when Old Nick visits.

Room is home to Jack, but to Ma it's the prison where she has been held for seven years. Through her fierce love for her son, she has created a life for him in this eleven-by-eleven-foot space. But with Jack's curiosity building alongside her own desperation, she knows that Room cannot contain either much longer.

Room is a tale at once shocking, riveting, exhilarating--a story of unconquerable love in harrowing circumstances, and of the diamond-hard bond between a mother and her child.

A possibility, maybe!

Although, I'll admit, the subject matter does seem like it could get a little intense, so it'd be one to clear with everyone before deciding, obviously.
